Attached is a Smoke Management presentation I did as part of air quality training for NRCS personnel in Washington State. Only 3 of the 27 slides are NRCS specific, the rest of the presentation gives general information about Smoke Management and specific information about the smoke management programs and sources of information for Washington State.

Attached is a presentation designed to introduce people to some basics about air quality and smoke management. It covers: fire as an essential ecological process (how it's going to happen and a picture of current fire activity), emissions from fire, the impacts of those emissions (health - NAAQS, safety, nuisance, visibility, WUI), how to manage smoke (smoke behavior, Basic Smoke Management Practices, progression to SMP and ESMP), fire weather and smoke management tools (NOAA NWS met data, FCAMMS/Predictive servics smoke product, simple smoke screening tool, bluesky, OK-Mesonet, Florida's smoke screening tool, satellite information), and a summary of SmoC activities. The ppt is 53 slides and 4 are NRCS specific. This was presented 6/30/2009 to NRCS state air quality contacts and other interested NRCS personnel.

Attached is a ppt that I gave on 9/12/2007 to the CenSARA Air Directors in Little Rock, Arkansas. Co-presenters were Pete Lahm (FS), and Chuck Stanley and Pat Shaver (NRCS Rangeland Specialists). It tries to give an overview of various Fire Weather and Smoke Management products available to the CenSARA region (Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska). The Air Directors are very interested in starting a dialog with land managers in the region about smoke issues. They are also very interested in BlueSky but I tried to paint a picture larger than BlueSky with the other Fire Weather products, such as the Oklahoma Mesonet, the WRAP FETS (they are interested in fire activity reporting), and briefly NOAA. Many people contributed to this ppt (Sim Larkin, Scott Goodrick, JD Carlson, Warren Heilman, Gary Achtemier, Karl Zeller, Dave Randall, Paul Schlobohm, Dennis Haddow).

Attached is a short Smoke Management training ppt that I gave to an NRCS prescribed burning class in Oregon last Fall. The beginning has general air quality and smoke management slides, then the rest is more Oregon specific.

This is my latest version of and Air Quality presentation for Region 8 Local Fire Management Leadership training. I am posting a powerpoint presentation and a lesson plan that are intended to be used together. I thought this might be helpful to the person who is working on line officer training.
